A Galaxy Of Poems Old And New (published by Longmans, Green and Co, 1962)

There are more than twenty of these fascinating little woodcuts in this book. Some are almost abstract and some naive. It does require a closer look to take in and appreciate the shapes and rhythm within each piece. I have to post some more in the future. I've never come accross Edward Nolan's work before and found no information on the internet but I do hope to see some of his work in the flesh one day - maybe even buy some... Meanwhile this book represents the best 50p I've ever spent.

Eggs, Beans and Crumpets by P.G. Woodhouse (publ. Herbert Jenkins Ltd - date unknown)

Luckily the illustrator here was allowed to sign his name (Fenwick?), even though I couldn't find anything else by him on the internet. Brilliant and witty stylised work (I think made in the 50ies - no date on the book).

Fairy Mythology of Shakespeare (Published 1875)

I've had this book for years before I noticed the beautiful details in these very small decorative engravings for each chapter. No mention of the artist of course - they may have been part of the service the printers (Ballantyne & Company) provided for the publisher. Shame not to give credit to such lovely work.
