"Patsy From The Wilds" By May Wynne, Illustrated By Gordon Browne (Published by Frederick Warne & Co., Ltd, London 1931) Part 2

This is a genuine 1930's adventure novel - very bulky too, but only because the pages are so thick! Beautifully drawn, delicate illustrations by British illustrator Gordon Browne (1858 - 1932). Love the design and type on the cover too.

"English Villages And Hamlets" By Humphrey Pakington, Cover By Brian Cook, Illustrated By Sydney R. Jones (published by B. T. Batsford Ltd, London 1934, this edition 1941) Part 3

Some of the black and white illustrations in this book by Sydney R. Jones - an excellent draughtsman capturing the atmosphere as well as all architectural details from all those beautiful and unspoiled parts of pre-war England. The book also includes a number of really good photographs but I feel these drawings bring them to life. It is interesting to see how the humble roads enhance the architecture of the villages - by comparison, today's heavily tarmacked roads (made to serve the enormous haulage lorries passing through), ugly lamp posts, pedestrian crossings, signage etc managed to completely ruin the character of most rural areas. Town planners call it "progress"!

"Andy And The Lion" Story and Pictures by James Daugherty (published by Scholastic Book Services, New York 1968 - Originally published by The Viking Press Inc. 1938) Part 3

This book is packed with James Daugherty's wacky and funny pictures (I counted 45!). I was so impressed with all the energy and excitement created by the artist's skilful drawing. The book was re-printed several times since its original publication in the late 1930's and is probably a classic by now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_and_the_Lion  Here is an excellent website dedicated to the life and work of  James Daugherty (born in Asheville, North Carolina 1887-1974) who, apart from the large volume of  published books (both written and illustrated by him), he was a significant American artist and a muralist: https://daughertyfoundation.com/

Amateur Wireless & Radiovision No.598 (25 November 1933) - Britain's Leading Radio Weekly For Constructor, Listener And Experimenter (Published by Bernard Jones Publications Ltd, London 1933) Part 2

This publication is exactly 82 years old today! I came across it a couple of years ago and was struck by all the unusual and elegant typefaces advertising obscure radio components - something I know nothing about apart from owning a couple of radios from that era. A real gem for radio enthusiasts and its full of practical information and hints on improving the performance of your wireless sets!
