According to this website,http://www.classiccrimefiction.com/bippares.htm Bip Pares (1904) was a British born artist and illustrated some 600 book jackets as well as illustrations for greetings cards and newspapers. Her most famous book jacket would probably be the one for James Hilton's best-seller "Goodbye, Mr Chips" published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1934 (I'd love to get a copy of that!).
I tried to remove the charity shop price label (20p) from the top right-hand corner but made a mess of it - very annoying!
