"Stuart In Tibet" By Neil Buckley, Cover and Illustrations By Edward Osmond (Published by George Newnes Limited, London 1949) - Part 1

Powerful and dynamic illustrations by British artist Edward Osmond (1900-1981). I was really excited to find this book among hundreds of other dusty and musty books in a local second-hand shop - and it's a first edition as well! Here is a biography on the artist from the Bear Alley blog 2007: https://bearalley.blogspot.co.uk/2007/12/edward-osmond.html?m=1

"The Ladybird Book Of Bedtime Stories" By Geoffrey Lapage, Illustrations By George Brook (published by Wills & Hepworth Ltd., Loughborough UK, 9th edition 1950) Part 2

The masterful and charming drawings of George Brook - couldn't find any information about him other than he is British and he illustrated Enid Blyton's famous "Secret Seven" novels from the 1950's to the mid-60's which is a great shame...

"Wonderbus 7 - Perry Colour Books" Illustrated By Leslie Butler (published by Powell Perry c1942-44, Putney UK) - Part 4

This is a very strange and eccentric book - but the pictures are just beautiful. I was really lucky to find it - and it hardly cost me anything! It was published some time during World War II by a little known publisher, Powell Perry. At the time he was an officer based in Farnham Castle, in charge of producing camouflage work for the British army. Apparently, he then employed the camouflage artists supplied the Women's Voluntary Services to illustrate picture books for children - his family having a printing business in Putney! Unfortunately there isn't much information about how many titles were published, what years exactly or anything on the man himself and the artists even though their books are of superb quality. I got this information from Joe Pearson's excellent website: http://designfortoday.co.uk/blog/2015/5/5/perry-colour-books

"Visiting The Foxes" By Nicolas Bebbington, Illustrated By R.M. Turvey (published by Blandford Press Ltd, London - mid 1940's) - Part 2

Couldn't find any information on R.M. Turvey who created these beautiful pictures for thi and a number of other Nicolas Bebbington books. This is a first edition book and the printing quality is superb but, annoyingly, the  publication date is nowhere to be found! - perhaps there is a page missing. I am guessing from a quick search on the internet that it was published in the mid to late 1940's.

"Good Housekeeping's Cookery Book" Illustrations By Fred Reeves and Douglas Woodall (published by Ebury Press London 1948 - this edition 1962) - Part 3

I don't have any information on these illustrators. There is no indication in the book about which pictures were produced by each artist. I suspect that one of the two artists would have been responsible for the various informative and instructional pictures while the other did these beautiful, decorative illustrations - and there are many more. A very thorough book with information on every type of meat, fish, cheese etc as well as advice on utensils, pans, cookers and even a kitchen layout! Some of the recipes don't look too healthy to me though, and the colour photos of the dishes are enough to put you off attempting any of them!
